You'd certainly remember it if you were this close to the action. 

These 1950s kids failed to 'retire to a safe distance' after firing up these squibs - hope they were well nailed on!

Gruesome as it sounds, Catherine wheel fireworks are named after the 4th century Saint Catherine of Alexandria who, according to Christian legend, was condemned to death by 'breaking on the wheel'. When she touched the wheel it miraculously flew to pieces.
