Glasgow's Briggait Fish Market was a hive of activity in 1965. While downstairs, it was all hustle and bustle, with trays of fresh fish flying out the door, upstairs, in the merchants' offices, it was all paperwork, and jingling telephones.

Opening long before dawn, come 10am, it was all over, with the workies hosing down their slabs, ready for the next day's haul.

Opened in 1873, the Briggait used to be the gathering point for Glasgow's fishwives. From there, with their barras loaded with the day's catch, they would wander the city streets, shouting their wares at the top of their voices. And you didn't want to argue with them, they could fillet a man just as quick as they could fillet a fish!
