Watch out, it's the Maryhill Fleet!

It's the 1930s, and the Glasgow-registered barge Catherine is being pulled through the Maryhill Locks, on the Forth and Clyde Canal, by a four-legged friend. Although the barge had no engine, it did have one horse-power.

And you needed a steady hand at the tiller to get these big girls through the narrow lock gates. You just know those guys on the quayside are looking on, sucking their teeth, and whispering: "He's making a right haddie of that!"

Speaking of girls, I love the wee lassie caught, right, with her cute bob and pinafore dress.
