It's Friday, you've done your 40 hours, it's time to shake off your workaday cares and hit the dancin! Who knows? You might even get a lumber...

The Dennistoun Palais (the 'Denny' to regulars), seen here in 1938, first opened its doors to dancers in 1922, but was destroyed by fire in 1936. When it was rebuilt and re-opened in 1938 it was the biggest dance hall in Glasgow, with a capacity of 1,800. It was said that ten times round the dance floor represented a mile. 

And, like all Glasgow's dance halls back in the day, there was no boozing; only soft drinks sold here

The Palais remained a hotspot until 1962, when, with more city centre nightclubs beginning to open, the venue was converted into a Fine Fare supermarket.
