It's 1965, and, with the annual arrival of the Scottish Motor Show, the floor of the Kelvin Hall has become a sea of precious metal. You can almost smell the polish, and all those lovely new car interior scents.

The show was a must for boys both big and small, with all the latest models on offer. And, even if you couldn't afford a car, you could maybe stretch to a new car-coat, a pair of string-backed leather driving gloves, or an in-car air freshener

. As a wee boy, I seem to remember coming away with armfuls of glossy brochures, which I'd pore over for weeks.

Nice, too, to see such once familiar trading names as Skellys of Motherwell, Harry Prosser and Sons, and William Gillespie.
