RAC girl Ruby Weir looks glamtastic astride her Vespa and sidecar combo in this classy 1960 snap. She was photographed on Kelvin Way, that's Lord Kelvin of that ilk in the background, along with the back/front of Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery.

Although some folk thought the RAC girls carried a full set of tools in their sidecar, in reality it was usually full of RAC brochures, and membership forms. Wise hands also used to load up the wee sidecar with bricks, to make the unit more stable when cornering. You certainly wouldn't want come off if you weren't wearing a 'skid lid'; that wee hat wouldn't have offered much protection in an accident.

We're sure Kelvin, the great mathematical physicist and engineer could have come up with a better safety solution.
