A face in the crowd.

'I had that Cary Grant sitting next to me at he pictures today. He's an affy nice bloke.'

Mrs Nan Lynch, of Busby, would have been the talk of the steamie after getting this close to movie royalty.

The Bristol-born Hollywood heart-throb, real name Archie Leach, proved a hit with film-mad Glaswegians when he dropped into the Regal Cinema (today's ABC music venue) in Sauchiehall Street, in 1958, to watch a special screening of his new film, Indiscreet.

Grant was no stranger to Glasgow. Before he crossed the pond, he used to be part of a music hall tumbling act, and regularly rolled about the stage of the city's Panopticon venue in his vest and pants. We bet there were a few Glasgow ladies in this audience who would have been happy to have a whip-round to pay for a repeat performance!
