This was the scene outside Glasgow High Court in 1958, as the city hung on every word in the trial of serial killer Peter Manuel.

Every morning, there was a 'queue like an execution', with ghoulish Glaswegians all keen to grab the free seats in the public gallery.

We're not sure where this big polis is directing this wee granny, but we doubt it's to the front of the queue.

Manuel was eventually found guilty of seven murders - there may have been more - and was hanged at Barlinnie on the morning of July 8th.

His last words, as he was led to the hanging cell, were: "Turn up the radio, and I'll go quietly..."
