There was real drama on the corner of Hope Street and St Vincent Street in the 1950s, when this tram jumped the rails and clattered into the front window of the Watson's Typewriters shop. That's not the kind of 'carriage return' the staff were expecting!

Despite the commotion, the crowd, and the presence of an ambulance (and a Beattie's Bread van) there were no fatalities. We suspect the only injury was to the tram driver's pride!

John Watson and Company, the owner of the shop, is one of Scotland’s oldest printing businesses and, incredibly, can trace its history back more than 200 years. It has been printing since 1820, and today, from its Townhead premises, provides labels for some of Scotland's biggest whisky brands.

Today, the building in the background is the Iberica Spanish restaurant, while the typewriter shop is home to a Barrhead Travel's specialist long-haul holiday shop.
