It's Christmas, it's the 1950s, and we're gathered around the tree in Central Station for a carol service.

What you can't see, due to the crush of people, was one of the most popular parts of Christmas for young visitors to the city's three mainline stations - Central, Queen Street, and St Enoch. Around the foot of that tree ran a model railway. Drop a penny in the charity box, and the wee trains and carriages would whizz around the tree. All the money raised went to railway charities.

It's hard to imagine now that a carol service could bring a busy Glasgow station to a standstill!
