A wonderful aerial view of the Cathedral, the Royal Infirmary, and the vanished tenements and closes of old Townhead.

The area, the birthplace of Glasgow, is much different now, with the M8 and a host of modern university buildings crowding out the people. The only bodies modern development can't move are those buried in the Necropolis; Glasgow's great Victorian 'city of the dead'.

Provand's Lordship, Glasgow's oldest surviving house, has looked out over this scene since 1471.

Wonder what St Mungo, who had his hermitage on the banks of the nearby Molendinar Burn, would make of the changes?
