Glasgow put on its gladrags in June 1953, ahead of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. And even city centre office blocks got in on the action.

This, the Buchanan Street HQ of George Outram & Co's Glasgow Herald and Evening Times, was decked out in red, white, and blue, with the emblems of the UK's four constituent nations positioned on special grilles above the windows; and what windows they were!

As well as the giant clock, telling the time for Glasgow, the windows provided a source of rolling news, with each edition of that day's paper being pinned up for passers-by to read.
