In a city notorious for it's wet climate, it's always nice to have a warm and dry spot to sit out the showers. The Winter Garden, at the People's Palace, has provided just such a shelter since January 1898, when it was opened by the Earl of Rosebury. There's still something magical about the tropical warmth, and deep, loamy smells of the giant greenhouse.

Originally, the ground floor of the People's Palace provided reading and recreation rooms, with a museum on the first floor, and a picture gallery on the top floor.

I wonder if the tree we see being planted here is still thriving on the Green.
