Eye-catching advertising gimmicks are nothing new. Back in the early 1950s, this store, in Royal Exchange Square used a live model to advertise their new look, and even employed a wee wifie to keep her window clean and sparkling.

We're not sure what the strategically placed brick was for (In case of model shortage, break window), and, perhaps, we'd best not ask!

Now, try as I may, I can't recall many ladies' fashion shops in the square, but the poster, a wee bit further along, might offer a clue. It seems to be advertising the Milton House, at Cowcaddens, a former music hall which later became part of the Dallas's department store. Perhaps this window display was a city centre 'come on' to get shoppers to walk up to the main store?
