When you're the highest-earning film star in 1950s Britain, where do you go to in Glasgow?

Well, if you were Norman Wisdom, you went straight to the nearest children's home, and tried to spread a little happiness.

Wisdom, who was abandoned as a child, always took time out to visit children's homes; happy to clown about for the wee ones.

The comedian, who found his first real home a bandboy in the British Army, also learned how to box in the forces, winning a number of titles.

What many folk don't know is that, for many years, Wisdom wanted to make, and star in, a biopic about the great Gorbals boxer Benny Lynch, Scotland's first World Champion pugiilst.
