Hard to believe, but this was what passed as a parking problem in 1958 Glasgow.

We're looking south down St Vincent Street, where wealthy -car-owning commuters have parked right outside their offices. Within the next week, new parking restrictions would come up, cutting the amount of precious metal by the kerb.

The street, incidentally, isn’t named after any of the various St Vincents, but after Cape Saint Vincent, in Portugal. The name marks the victory of a British fleet, under Admiral Sir John Jervis, over a larger Spanish fleet, under Admiral Don Jose de Cordoba Ramos, on February 15th, 1797, in one of the opening battles of the Anglo-Spanish War (1796-1808), as part of the French Revolutionary Wars.
