You can always be assured of a good feed at this Glasgow corner, the junction of West Nile and St Vincent Streets.

Seen here in the late 1950s, with a trolley-bus passing through the lights, the building on the north-west corner - 78 St Vincent Street - was built, in 1912-13, as the Phoenix Assurance HQ. Designed by architect Alex D Hislop, of Campbell and Hislop, he looked to streamlined American designs to borrow his style.

Since the assurance company moved out, the building has operated as a variety of eateries, serving up everything from French flavours, to burgers, to Italian treats.
