It's 1951, and we're peeping over the parapet of the old St Enoch Station, towards Argyle Street, Buchanan Street, and Glasgow's first Tourist Information kiosk - built for visitors arriving in the city for that year's Exhibition of Industrial Power - part of the Festival of Britain - at the Kelvin Hall.

Down below, on the ramp up to the station and hotel entrance, hung an advert featuring a rhyme that everybody in Glasgow could recite: 'The come as a boon and a blessing to me, the Pickwick, the Owl, and the Waverley Pen'.

The station, opened in 1876 - and the first building in Glasgow to be lit with electric light - closed in 1966, as part of the Beeching Cuts, and was eventually demolished in 1977.
