You can bet your bottom dollar that more than a few Glasgow men would have been happy to come up and see this glamorous Glasgow visitor.
It's 1947, and Hollywood star Mae West has just stepped off the London train to oversee the production of her play Diamond Lil at the Alhambra Theatre.
Although she might have played the dizzy blonde, Mae was a shrewd businesswoman, and behind the slow drawl and suggestive one-liners was a clever woman who wrote successful plays and films as well as appearing in them. She was even jailed for 10 days on obscenity charges due to the risque nature of her play Sex.
As she once said, she approved of censorship, as it made her so much money.
In Diamond Lil she played a wisecracking tart-with-a-heart who strolls through the show singing a few songs, and being chased by a string of men. So not really typecast then.
