Francie and Josie (Jack Milroy and Rikki Fulton) - the terror of the Coocaddens - took to the airwaves in October 1965, when the Pye/Echo broadcasting train pulled into Glasgow.

The train, 13 coaches long, and hired from British Rail, featured a mobile TV and radio studio, and was designed to spread the word about the new, high-definition TV service, based on 625 lines, rather than the previous 405-line transmissions.

The comedians, then the biggest draw in Scotland, were happy to spin pop platters, and pitter their Glesga patter for the listening audience, as well as pose for the press cameras; we can see them on the other side of the glass.

Now, quiet, Francie, we're about to go 'live'.

Sure, Josie. Sure, Josie. Sure, sure, sure. I'll haud ma wheesht!
